Eller snarare, det engelska parlamentet drog åt snoddarna till pengabörsen. Charles II, medveten om vad ett uppretat parlament kunde ställa till med, hade inget annat alternativ än att skriva på ett fredsavtal med Nederländerna.
En sak som skedde i detta avtal var att det nordamerikanska området som Nederländerna kallade Nya Nederländerna, tillsammans med staden Nya Amsterdam återgick till den Engelska kronan.
Staden, och kolonin, fick den 19:e februari 1674 namnet vi känner dem med idag: New York.
